Raoni meets with Pope Francis in the Vatican climate summit

During the Vatican summit “From Climate Crisis to Climate Resilience”, that took place from 15-17 May 2024, Rainforest Organization France had again the privilege to accompany Raoni to address Pope Francis and the international community on the environmental and social crises currently faced by indigenous communities in Brazil and around the world.

The summit created in the wake of the Vatican Climate Resilience initiative adopted in 2022, that seeks to bring together researchers, entrepreneurs as well as religious and political leaders to reflect on the needed actions to mitigate climate change. The event resulted in the elaboration of the Planetary Climate Resilience Protocol, a document with guidelines on how to stop climate change, the loss of our planet’s biodiversity and global inequality.

The event was attended by mayors from global cities, such as Paris, New York, Rome, São Paulo and London, as well as researches from renowned institutions such as Harvard University, Yale University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
